Obituary

Phyllis Ann King, the daughter of Norman and Shirley (Zobrist) Leed was born September 14, 1942 at Council Bluffs, Iowa. She passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the Madonna Rehabilitation Specialty Hospital, Bellevue, Nebraska at the age of 73 years, 6 months and 15 days.

Phyllis was raised in the Hancock, Iowa area where she was baptized and confirmed. She graduated from high school at Avoca and attended Jennie Edmundson School of Nursing at Council Bluff, Iowa graduating as a registered nurse. Phyllis was united in marriage to Lawrence King on December 13, 1962 at Hancock, Iowa. Following graduation, Phyllis worked at Children's Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska while Lawrence was in the military. Phyllis and Lawrence moved to Avoca after his honorable discharge and she worked in Atlantic as the director of nursing at a care center. They later moved to Silver City and Phyllis worked at the Glenwood State School. Since l979, Phyllis and Lawrence have made their home in Emerson, Iowa. She continued working at the state school and retired after 20 years of service. Phyllis enjoyed spending time with the ladies at coffee club, and was always willing to lend others a helping hand. She loved camping and fishing with family and friends, along with knitting and making jewelry. Phyllis was a member of the First Baptist Church in Emerson, where she was involved in the ladies' circle. Her close caring relationship with her children and grandchildren will be missed by them all.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; son, Scott King on November 23, 2011 and brother, Michael Leed.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, Lawrence King of Emerson, IA; children: Steven King and wife Dawn of Emerson, IA; Kristi Niemann and husband Mike of Columbus, NE; Spencer King and wife Danielle of Bucyrus, OH; 16 grandchildren: Jonathan King, Brad, Taylor, Zach and Corey Niemann, Jessica, Andy, Alex and Skylar King, Dalon and LaMya King, Dakota, Ciara and Noah King, TC and Nichole Dieckmann; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Kathy Fay of Winterset, IA; and sisters-in-law: Shirley King of Cedar Falls, IA and Judy Leed of Anita, IA; other relatives and friends.
