Phyllis Jane Nina Veseen, the daughter of Ruben and Annis Nelson Lungren was born August 11, 1926 in Page County, Iowa. She passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at the Stanton Care Center, Stanton, Iowa at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 19 days. Phyllis lived the first years of her life in Page County on a farm. In 1934, the family moved to the Stanton area, and in 1944, she graduated from Stanton High. Phyllis was united in marriage to Calvin D. Veseen on April 26, 1946 in Stanton, Iowa. She was a wonderful homemaker and beautiful home interior decorator. For 43 years, Phyllis and Cal made their home on a farm near Stanton. She loved to cross stitch and crochet, along with baking angel food cakes and coffee rings for family and friends. Phyllis was a member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church, having served as a Sunday School teacher for many years, and being involved with the Junior Mission Band. Phyllis enjoyed being part of the Study Club, Birthday Club, Worthwhile Club and local coffee clubs, where she could fellowship with friends. Family was very important to Phyllis, she dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In November 2005, Phyllis made her home at the Stanton Care Center. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Calvin D. Veseen on March 20, 2008; great grandson, Graham Petty; and brother, Virgil Lungren. Phyllis is survived by her two daughters: Susan Petty and husband Steve of Clarinda, IA; and Becky Downs and husband Robert of Blue Springs, MO; four grandchildren: Scott Petty and wife Julie; Ben Petty and wife Marianne; Katie McCauley and husband Brian; and Sam Downs; great-grandson, Caden Petty; sister, Mrs. Cleone Nelson of Stanton, IA; sisters-in-law: Mrs. Arlene Lantz of Red Oak, IA; and Mrs. Lucille Raniger of Manning, IA; nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Mamrelund Lutheran Church, Stanton, Iowa Burial in Mamre Cemetery, Stanton Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli, Officiating Visitation with the family present at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home on Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Mamrelund Lutheran Church.
