Phyllis Esther Taylor, the daughter of Dallas and Lillie (Schuler) Porter was born October 30, 1925 at Grant, Iowa. She passed away on Friday, May 24, 2013 at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 87 years, 6 months and 24 days. Phyllis was raised in Grant, Iowa and graduated from Grant High School. She was united in marriage to Vernon R. Taylor on December 19, 1943 in Des Moines, IA. Phyllis and Vernon lived in Grant and operated a gas station for several years. In 1951, they moved to Gardena, CA. While in Gardena, Phyllis worked for Russell Barr's Furniture Store. Following retirement, Phyllis and Vernon made Apple Valley, CA their home for 10 years. In l989, Phyllis and Vernon moved to Elliott, IA and later to Red Oak, IA. In 1999, they moved to Brookridge Apartments in Atlantic, IA. Phyllis had been supportive of the Grant United Methodist Church, especially with their sewing, crocheting and embroidering projects. She enjoyed spending time and visiting with her friends and family who were the most important part of her life. Phyllis was preceded in death by her father, Dallas Porter; mother, Lillie Mullen; step-father, Owen Mullen; and sisters: Bernadine Fisher, Dorothy Barr and Vivian Ellis. Phyllis is survived by her son, Leslie Taylor and wife Julie of Stafford, VA; granddaughter, Kim Taylor of Atlanta, GA; sister, Kathleen Kelley and husband Richard of Elliott, IA; brothers: Dennis Porter and wife June of California and Reed Porter and wife Jackie of Gravois Mills, MO; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. As Phyllis wished to be cremated, Memorial Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Grant Cemetery, Grant, Iowa Family and friends are to meet at the cemetery. Rev. Marion Sindt, Officiating Memorials may be given to the donor's choice in Phyllis's name. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
