Obituary

Rick Thomas Porter, the son of Thomas and Rose Catlin Porter was born March 29, 1977 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He died suddenly on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at his home in Belle Chasse, Louisiana at the age of 30 years, 5 months and 27 days. Rick grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa where he attended school. Shortly after high school Rick moved to the Austin, Texas area. Throughout his career he had worked for Motorola, TrimTech and operated his own construction business, before joining the U.S. Navy on April 14, 2004. He was currently serving with the U.S. Navy stationed at Belle Chasse, Louisiana. Rick was assigned to the Fleet Logistic Support Squadron Five Four. His hobby was brewing homemade beer. Rick enjoyed many activities; cycling, kayaking, fishing, playing pool, music, movies and woodworking. He loved talking with people and fixing anything that was broken for family and friends. Rick was preceded in death by his father: Thomas Porter; sister: Teresa Porter; and brother: Matt Porter. Rick is survived by his mother: Rose Kelly and husband Ed of Red Oak, IA; brothers: Mark Porter and wife Elizabeth of Spring Branch, TX; Jeremy Kelly and wife Jill of Vinton, IA; sisters: Debra Robertson and husband Danny of Clarinda, IA; Kristen Porter of Omaha, NE; Beth Burt-Miller and husband Joseph of Roselle, NJ; nieces & nephews: Jennifer Kearney, Johnas Perkins, Justine Cooper, Aaryanna Burt-Miller, Bryanna Burt-Miller, Joel Robertson, Jared Robertson, Josh Robertson and Jordan Hicks; great-niece & nephew: Ashton and Zeke Kearney; many other relatives and friends. May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Monday, October 1, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. At Faith Community Church in Red Oak, Iowa Burial in Emerson Cemetery, Emerson, IA with full Military Honors by the U.S. Navy. Rev. David MacDonald, Officiating Open Viewing after 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 30 at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
