Obituary

Ray Platt, the son of Grant and Columbia Kidwell Platt was born August 30, 1917 in Edwards, Missouri. He passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 11 days. In 1928 at the age of 11, Ray along with his family moved to Red Oak from Missouri. He entered the U. S. Army on January 27, 1942 and was honorably discharged on November 29, 1945. Ray was united in marriage to Margaret L. Longinaker on December 14, 1945 in Red Oak, Iowa. Ray drove a gravel truck for a few years and then began working as a carpenter for C. Emil Johnson. Ray's carpenter career spanned over 30 years. Ray loved nature, he and his family shared many good times while camping on vacation. He also enjoyed coffee time with the guys. Ray was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #67 and VFW Darwin Merritt Post #2265 both of Red Oak. He was also a member of the Presbyterian Church in Red Oak. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Margaret on December 4, 2004; sisters: Ruby Butler and Fern England; brothers: Donald Platt and Denzel Platt. Ray is survived by his children: Sharon Malousek and husband LeRoy of Lincoln, NE; Jolene Johnson and husband Allan of Stanton, IA; Clarence Dean Platt, Michael ""Mickey"" Platt and Merlin Platt all of Red Oak, IA; five grandchildren: Torrey Malousek and wife Judy, Trace Malousek, Yvonnie Gord and husband Steve, Carrie Johnson and husband Mike, and Tracey Johnson; 11 great-grandchildren: Jessica and James Malousek, Ashlie and Cody Schooling, Kinsey, Lucas and Logan Johnson, Max, Alex, Valarie and Annie Gord; brothers: Leroy Platt of Cottonwood, AZ; and Keith Platt of Red Oak, IA; sister: Mrs. Columbia Magnuson of Red Oak, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak with Military Rites Rev. Caryn Pedersen, Officiating Visitation with the family present at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home on Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
