Obituary

Richard Arthur Mullenix, the son of Wilbur and Almyra (Miller) was born May 8, 1934 in Wapello County, Iowa. He passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at his home in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 79 years, 8 months and 22 days. Richard was raised in Wapello County, Iowa. He graduated from Hedrick High School, Hedrick, Iowa in l952 and started college at Iowa State University. Richard was united in marriage to Faye Townsend on June 19, 1955 at Blakesburg, Iowa. He completed his Bachelor of Science Degree at Iowa State and in 1965, Richard, Faye and sons made their home in Red Oak. He worked for Farmers National Company as a farm manager from l965 until 1981. Richard then started his own farm management company, Iowa Heritage Company. During the past number of years, Richard drove a delivery truck for Red Oak Greenhouse. History was an important part of Richard's life. He believed if you didn't talk about it, it would be forgotten. He was a member of the Montgomery County Historical Society and was instrumental in acquiring and relocating the Pittsburgh School, Stipe Cabin and Wilson Post Office. Richard was the organizer and speaker for the sesquicentennial at the Mars Hill Log Church. He was a lifelong member of the Baptist church, currently the First Baptist Church in Red Oak, and especially enjoyed singing gospel music in country churches. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and son, Tom. Richard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Faye Mullenix of Red Oak, IA; sons and grandchildren: John Mullenix of Red Oak, IA; Robert and wife Liz Mullenix of Oxford, OH and their children, Tom, Charles and Livi; William and wife Dee Mullenix of Bloomington, IL and their children, Jake, Leah and Coleman; and Kyle and wife Tami Mullenix of Sioux City, IA and their children, Tyler, Rebekah and Brandon; brother, Judson Mullenix of Southlake, TX; and brother-in-law, Don Townsend of Blakesburg, IA; other relatives and friends. May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Monday, Feb. 3, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Red Oak, Iowa Rev. Len Taylor and Rev. Morris Hurd, Officiating Visitation with family present on Sunday, Feb. 2, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church or Montgomery County Historical Society. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
