Obituary

Richard Burton Scott, the son of Walter B. and Anna (Pierce) Scott was born March 15, 1938 at Iowa City, Iowa. He passed away suddenly on Friday, March 22, 2019 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 81 years and 7 days.

Richard graduated from New Market High School in 1957 and dedicated six years to the Iowa Army National Guard. On May 1, 1960, Richard was united in marriage to Geraldene Demanett at Clarinda, Iowa. While serving in the National Guard, Richard worked as a farmhand a number of years before working for Kaser Construction at the Stennett quarry. In 1976, he began a 25-year career with NSK in Clarinda, Iowa, from which he retired. Richard like to stay busy and after retirement, he enjoyed working a time with the Montgomery County Conservation in maintenance, helping people with odd jobs and working part-time at the Stanton Co-op. Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and was a wonderful woodworker. He loved restoring old tractors and his 1936 Chevy pickup.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Geraldene on October 29, 2010; son, Christopher Scott; brothers: Walter and Jim Scott; sister, Sara Carmichael and an infant sister.

Richard is survived by four children: Cynthia Shough and husband Michael of Labelle, FL; Kenneth Scott and wife Kim of Skidmore, MO; Denise Johnson and husband Kevin of Shambaugh, IA; and Kimberly Keoppel and husband Travis of Adair, IA; grandchildren: Neil Shough, Miranda Shough, Christopher Scott, Jr., Daniel Scott, Brandon Scott, Amber Sharp, Valarie Gray, Kylee Thomas, Jordan Johnson and Caleb Johnson; great-grandchildren: Emory Shough, Carter Shough, Olivia Shough, Abigail Scott, Zachary Welch, Autumn Gray, Mason Gray, Wyatt Wiese, Taven Eairth and Leon Rogers; brother, Fred Scott of Mountain View, ARK; sister-in-law, Wanda Scott of Red Oak, IA; and special friend, Wanda Hanson of Council Bluffs, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
