Robert Donald Brackhahn, the son of Allen E. and Irene (Sewell) Brackhahn was born July 17, 1927 at Humboldt, Nebraska. He passed away on Monday, September 9, 2013 at the Red Oak Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 86 years, 1 month and 23 days. As a child, Robert was raised in Nebraska. The family moved to California where he attended high school. Following graduation, Robert worked at a tomato canning factory. He later moved to San Francisco, California where he worked as an auto mechanic. Robert returned to the midwest living in Omaha, Nebraska, and then Atlantic, Iowa, working for an auto parts store. He and his companion, Betty Roof moved back to Omaha and operated an area gas station. In 1976, they made their home in Red Oak. Robert worked for the Montgomery County Secondary Roads Department, retiring in l989. That same year, Robert and Betty were united in marriage in Omaha, Nebraska. Robert enjoyed camping, and riding his motorcycle with Betty, especially taking vacations to California and Kentucky on their bike. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty on January 31, 2012; and brother, Lester. Robert is survived by son, Douglas Brackhahn; step-daughter, Cheryl Hensley of Omaha, NE, along with her children: Andrea, Travis and Joshua Hensley; step-son, Dennis Roof and wife Marilyn of Omaha, NE, and their daughter, Laura Roof; 7 step-great-grandchildren; brother, Harold W. Brackhahn of England; nieces and nephews, along with other relatives and friends. May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn.
