Robert M. "Bob" Wilson, the son of Melvin "Woody" and Vira (Marler) Wilson was born October 11, 1937 in Union County, Iowa, the second of seven children. He passed away on May 2, 2016 at the Valley Baptist Hospital, Harlingen, Texas at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 21 days.
Bob enlisted in the Navy at 17 years of age and took his basic training at Great Lakes Naval training center and was baptized at the U.S.O. in Chicago. Following basic training he was sent to Norman, OK for naval aviation indoctrination school for 12 weeks. Bob was transferred to Jacksonville, FL to naval air station for 12 weeks to attend storekeeping school. He was then stationed at the naval station on Guam for 20 months supplying all squadrons. Bob was then shipped to Moffett Airfield at Mountain View, CA, where he was a supply officer for an all-weather fighter squadron for his last 14 months of his service duty.
In civilian life, Bob was a carpenter, a sheetrock hanger and finisher, mechanic and bartender. The last 17 years of his working life, he was a fabrication supervisor for Benetech Corporation in Aurora, IL. Bob and his wife Sharon K. Goings Wilson of Auburn, NE were together for 51and a half year, and raised four sons: Mark and Jerry Daffer and Daniel and David Wilson.
In retirement, Bob and Sharon were winter Texans, and resided at Winter Ranch R.V. Park in Alamo, TX. Bob loved playing golf and was an avid pool player having won his share of trophies. His passion was his family. He loved his wife, Sharon, his sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Kristy Kay Daffer; sister, Joanne McIntosh and husband Harvey; brother, Phillip and nephew, Thomas McIntosh.
Bob is survived by his wife, Sharon of Eldena, IL, 4 sons: Mark (Melinda) Daffer of Amboy, IL, Jerry (Ronda) Daffer of Red Oak, IA, Daniel (Katrina) Wilson of St Cloud, MN, and David Wilson of Eldena, IL; 7 grandchildren: Mikala (John) Wilkening of Villisca, IA, Michelle Daffer of Omaha, NE, Thomas (Alex) Daffer of Red Oak, IA, Marjorie Daffer of Amboy, IL, Margaret Daffer of Amboy, IL, Drew McKendry of Amboy, IL, and Hillary Kesterson of Omaha, NE; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Deanne (Mike) Hughes of Clarinda, IA; brothers: Ronald Wilson of Omaha, NE, John (Denise) Wilson of Glencoe, AL, and James Wilson of Des Moines, IA; brothers-in-law: Gary (Patty) Johnson of Auburn, NE, Donnie Johnson of Nebraska City, NE and Keith (Leona) Johnson of Hickman, NE; sisters-in-law: Lydia Johnson of Walnut, IA and Barbara Johnson of Wareham, MA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends
Interment of Ashes will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, Iowa at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 4 th , 2016, with military rites.
A Celebration of Life service will follow at the Faith Community Church in Red Oak. All relatives and friends are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is assisting the family with services.
