John Roger Walford, the son of John R. and Verna K. (Hinton) Walford was born August 8, 1932 at Corning, Iowa. He passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Bergen Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 20 days.
Roger was raised in Corning, Iowa and graduated from Corning High School. After high school, Roger farmed and then on November 12, 1952, he entered the U.S. Army. Roger served during Korea and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star. On August 21, 1954, he was honorably discharged. Following his discharge, he worked the wheat harvest on his way back home and ended up in South Dakota, where he met his future wife, Donna. Roger was united in marriage to Donna L. Magoon on June 8, 1957 at Redfield, South Dakota, and they made their home in Red Oak. Roger worked a few years for Union Carbide Battery Company and then 23 years with Safeway, as a meat cutter. In 1982, he began working at the Montgomery County Court House in maintenance, until his retirement in 1998. Roger enjoyed working in their yard and large garden. He loved to camp, read, cook, go on walks and help others. Roger and Donna also enjoyed square dancing and playing pinochle. Roger was a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion Lorraine Post #67 and Merc Coffee Club, all in Red Oak.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Robert, Donald Dean and Wayne Walford; sister, Doris Von Bon; granddaughter, Jennifer L. Walford; and great-grandson, Aaron L. Heitink.
Roger is survived by his wife of 61 years, Donna Walford of Red Oak, IA; three sons: Jack (Violet) Walford of Red Oak, IA, Randall (Judy) Walford of Des Moines, IA and Anthony (Julie) Walford of Herman, NE; 10 grandchildren: Heidi Dunn, Dylan (Jen) Walford, Meghan (Andre) Shipley, Kody Reynolds, Jay (Sarah) Heitink, Joe (Bobbie) Heitink, James (Krystal) Walford, Tara Burmood, Joe (Tasha) Burmood and Jeff Walford; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas (Betty) Walford of Gilbert, AZ; sisters-in-law: Bert Walford of Red Oak, IA and Phyllis Altheidi of Chamberlin, SD; other relatives and many friends.

Visitation and viewing with the family will be held Tuesday evening, October 30, 2018 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church.
