Romona Jean Holmes, the daughter of Ralph T. and Hallie M. (Adams) Basore was born August 17, 1929 in Adams County, Iowa. She passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at her son's home in Ripley, New York at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 7 days.
Romona was raised in Adams County, Iowa. On December 28, 1946, Romona was united in marriage to Rex Dean Holmes in Hiawatha, Kansas. Being married to a career Marine, they lived all over the world. After Rex's honorable discharge in 1972, they made Red Oak their home. Romona was a member of the First Christian Church, American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary and Fleet Reserve Auxiliary.
Romona was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Rex, on July 14, 2010; son, David Holmes; brother, Stanley Basore and sister, Diane Gelder.
Romona Jean is survived by 2 sons: Richard Holmes and wife Chris of Westminster, CO; and Dwight Holmes and wife Ingrid of Ripley, NY; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Holmes of Leavenworth, KS; 7 grandchildren: Rex D. Holmes II, Karl Holmes, David Holmes Grassia, Justin Holmes, Travis Holmes, Chad Holmes and Amanda Holmes; great-grandchildren: Amanda, Ashley, Kristen and Makinlee; 4 step-grandchildren: Steve, Serina, Corina and Adinna; 6 step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Elizabeth "Betty" Miller of Red Oak, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
