Obituary

Rosamond "Rosie" Nelson, 88 of Red Oak, Iowa Rosamond Irene "Rosie" Nelson, the daughter of Edward W. and Irene Rapp Johnson was born February 26, 1922 in Red Oak, Iowa. She passed away on Friday, November 12, 2010 at her residence in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 8 months and 17 days.

Rosie was raised in Red Oak and graduated in 1939 from Red Oak High School. She furthered her education at Red Oak Junior College and National College of Education in Wilmette, IL. Rosie taught children at schools in Grant #9, Wales-Lincoln, Council Bluffs, and then Washington school in Red Oak. Rosie was united in marriage to John M. Nelson on August 17, 1948 in Omaha, NE. In 1967, Rosie became the director of Montgomery County General Assistance, retiring in 1998, after 31 years of service. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Red Oak and an active volunteer in many Red Oak organizations.

Rosie was preceded in death by her parents, husband: John Nelson on August 14, 1974; sisters: Madeline Dahlquist and Helen Dau; and brother: Duane "Andy" Johnson.

Rosie is survived by her three daughters: Susie Skogerboe and husband Chuck of Spirit Lake, IA; Jane Stoll and husband Hans of Bethlehem, PA; Julie Oliver and husband Stuart of Cleburne, TX; four grandchildren: Jeffrey Backerman, Erik Stoll, Marcus Stoll and Adam Stoll; sister-in-law: Ardis Johnson of Red Oak, IA; sister-in-law: Beverly Nelson of CA; brother-in-law: Mervin Dau of Oakland, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at 10:00 a.m.
at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home.

Inurnment at Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak.

Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home
