Obituary

Ross Job Davis, the son of Lyman J. and Helen C. Birkemeier Davis was born October 12, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois. He passed away Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Creighton Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 81 years, 4 months and 23 days. Ross was raised in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Senn High School in l946. As a youth, Ross was an usher at Wrigley Field for the Chicago Cubs and also at the Chicago Stadium for the Blackhawks and other events. Ross graduated from Beloit College at Beloit, WI with a degree in Sociology. Ross was united in marriage to Coralie Mathews on July 9, 1949 in Chicago, IL. He began his insurance career in Chicago with the Hartford Insurance Company. In 1955, Ross and Coralie moved to Red Oak, when Ross became a partner in an insurance agency. He later owned and operated Davis Insurance for many years. In 1977, Ross was named Chairman of The Hartford Insurance Company's, National Jonathan Trumble Council. He retired from his 46-year insurance career in l996. Ross was a lifelong and true Chicago Cubs fan. He loved baseball and was one of the founders of little league baseball in Red Oak. Ross played baseball with the town team, the original Red Oak Red Sox. He served on the Red Oak School Board as President. Ross was a member of the First Congregational Church UCC. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, spending time visiting and drinking coffee with friends. Ross was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Coralie Davis on June 28, 1999; and brother: Henry. Ross is survived by children: Fred Davis and wife Kathy of Red Oak, IA; Sue Taylor and husband Rick of Red Oak, IA; and Matt Davis of Jefferson City, MO; 5 grandchildren: Ben Davis and wife Sabrina of Mt. Vernon, MO; Martha Davis of Greeley, CO; Jason Taylor and wife Lindsay of Prairie Village, KS; Nathan Taylor of Edwardsville, KS; and Grace Davis of Jefferson City, MO; great-grandchild: Isabel Davis of Mt. Vernon, MO; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at First Congregational UCC, Red Oak, IA Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Rev. Elizabeth Dilley, Officiating Visitation with the family present at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorials to: Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Foundation or Special Learning Center at Jefferson City, MO. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
