Ruby Jane Arnold, the daughter of Ray M. and Elsie C. Rush Tomlinson was born July 6, 1918 in Montgomery County, Iowa. She entered her heavenly home on Monday, May 10, 2010 at the Griswold Care Center, Griswold, Iowa at the age of 91 years, 10 months and 4 days. Ruby was raised west of Red Oak on a farm. She attended grade school in rural Montgomery County and graduated from Red Oak High School in l936. Ruby was united in marriage to William E. Arnold on February 14, 1937 in Red Oak, Iowa. Ruby then worked for the Montgomery County attorney, and for Edwin Enquist Insurance. She and William also bottled and sold milk from their farm north of Red Oak to local grocers for several years. They lived on several farms in the Stanton area before settling on their farm in Frankfort Township, where they resided for 30 years. They moved into Red Oak in l975. On January 17, 1953, Ruby was hired by Murphy Memorial Hospital to work in the office; and 28 years later retired from there as an administrative assistant. Ruby was a life-time member of the First Christian Church in Red Oak; member of the Business and Professional Women; and Montgomery County Historical Society. She devoted many years to being a 4-H leader. She was honored in 2000 with a Century Family of Montgomery County certificate; volunteered 1000's of hours with the Congregate Meal Site, Meals on Wheels, and commodities distribution. She also sang and entertained with the 'Happy Warblers' all over southwest Iowa. Ruby loved baking, cooking, quilting, sewing, and was an expert at crocheting, along with being an avid reader. Ruby enjoyed traveling and was fortunate to have taken several chartered bus tours; from Canada to Old Mexico; Hawaii to Washington, D. C. at cherry blossom time; as well as to beautiful New England area in autumn. In December 2003, Ruby became a resident of the Griswold Care Center. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 70 years: William E. Arnold on March 19, 2007; brother: Dean Tomlinson; brothers-in-law: Adrian Wookey, Jared Woodfill and John Cliff Lyda. Ruby is survived by son: Robert W. Arnold and his wife Mary of McClelland, IA; daughter: Jane Jurgens and husband Dennis of Winterset, IA; four grandchildren: William L. Arnold and wife Tammy of Crescent, IA; Barbara Smith and husband Mike of Omaha, NE; Michael Jurgens and wife Dani of Des Moines, IA; Douglas Jurgens of St. Charles, IA; five great-grandchildren: Rita Hecker; Steven Hecker; Jacob Arnold; Sandra Jurgens; Joshua Jurgens; one great-great-grandchild: Tyrza Hecker; four sisters: Mrs. Faye Wookey of Emerson, IA; Fern Taylor and husband Bill of Lincoln, NE; Mrs. Lois Woodfill of Malvern, IA; Mrs. Erma Lyda of Meridian, ID; sister-in-law: Mrs. Anna L. Tomlinson of Rogers, AR; along with nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn.
