Obituary

Ruby Lee Veon, the daughter of Roy and Cleo (Huddleston) Brazeal was born April 25, 1929, at West Plains, Missouri. She passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 94 years, 5 months and 6 days.

Ruby was raised in West Plains, Missouri. She graduated from Thomasville High School, and taught school for two years. On June 10, 1950, Ruby was united in marriage to Harry S. Veon at Salem, Arkansas. Harry worked for AT&T and this job allowed them to live in many locations all over the United States. In l957, they made their home in Red Oak where Ruby sold Avon products for over 50 years. She was an active member of the First Christian Church and Red Oak Monday Club. Over the years, Ruby enjoyed being involved with Order of Eastern Star and Rainbow Girls, along with bowling, baking, knitting, crocheting and making many kinds of crafts.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry on January 14, 2015; daughter, Rhonda Oakleaf; sisters: Jeanie Day, Letha Webster and Barbara Stamp; and brothers-in-law: DT Chamberlin, Mike Webster and Lane Stamp.

Ruby is survived by her son: Larry (Susan) Veon of Stanton, IA; and daughter, Renee (Gail) Speed of Fishers, IN; 8 grandchildren: Chris Veon, Matt (Stephanie) Veon, Kevin (Amy) Veon, Jenni Veon, Ian Speed, Kelsey (Brian) Hutchison, Holly Rider, and Austin Oakleaf; step-grandsons: Ross (Jamie) Oakleaf and Alex Oakleaf; 12 great-grandchildren: Sarah and fiancé Dylan, Leyton, Isley, Aiden, Makayla, Addison, Camden, Carter, Jaxston, Caleb, Trinity and Brock; and sister, Alice Chamberlin; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn.

Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 6, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church, Red Oak, Iowa.

Visitation with the family one hour before the funeral on Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 10:00 a.m. at the First Chrisitan Church, Red Oak.

Memorials to the First Christian Church or Red Oak Fire & Rescue Association.
