Selma Reuelene "Rusty" Hays, the daughter of Reuel and Esther (Burg) Abraham was born December 29, 1928, in Montgomery County, Iowa. She passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak, Iowa, the age of 92 years, 11 months and 8 days.

Rusty was raised in the Coburg, Iowa, area until the family moved to Hot Springs, New Mexico. She graduated from Hot Springs High School, moved to Omaha, Nebraska, and attended cosmetology school. Rusty was united in marriage to Alvin D. Hays on December 14, 1946, at Essex, Iowa. They moved to a farm in the Malvern, Iowa area and in 1952, to a farm near Essex, Iowa. In 1957, Rusty and Alvin made their home on their farm near Climax, Iowa, until 1978, when they retired and moved into Red Oak. She was a wonderful and helpful farmer's wife, a fantastic cook and the family event planner. Rusty enjoyed traveling, shopping and being with her family. She was a member of the Climax Neighbor Club and for the past 15 years, a member of Hope for Life Church.

Rusty was preceded in death by her parents; grandchild, Jordan Lebsack; son-in-law, Robert Heuer; brother and his wife, DeLoye and Marian Abraham.

Selma Reuelene "Rusty" Hays is survived by her husband of 75 years, Alvin Hays of Red Oak, IA; four children: Linda (Tom) Lebsack of Austin, TX, Stephen (Cindee) Hays of Red Oak, IA, Leslie (Pamela) Hays of Red Oak, IA and Rachel Heuer of Council Bluffs, IA; 9 grandchildren: Eliot (Cindy) Lebsack of Windham, NH, Adam Lebsack of Ft. Collins, CO, Diane (Dale) Wingert of Red Oak, IA, Kym Hays of Red Oak, IA, Sarah (Stephen) Canny of Santa Fe, NM, Matt Hays of Omaha, NE, Cara (Karis) Crilly of Council Bluffs, IA, Mark (Andrea) Heuer of Mooreton, ND and Joy Heuer of Council Bluffs, IA; 9 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday morning, December 11, 2021, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home.
