Ruth Deen Almond, age 71, passed away Tuesday, September 5, at Methodist-Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs after a long battle with COPD. She died surrounded by family and friends.
Ruth was born in Red Oak, December 30th, 1945 to Harold Breese and Florence Saner. The youngest of three siblings, Ruth spent most of her childhood in Alameda, California. She and her sister, Cherie, moved back to Red Oak as teenagers following their father's death. They lived in Red Oak with their aunt and uncle, Virginia and George (Banty) Breese. Ruth attended high school in Red Oak with the class of 1963. She married Russell Hayes in 1965 and had three children from that marriage, Tony, Rusty, and Angie. She was united in marriage to Marvin Almond on December 30, 1983.
Ruth worked many places throughout her life, including Eveready and D&L, and ran her own cleaning business. Her favorite job for the last twenty years has been caring for her grandchildren.
Ruth had a great sense of humor and a positive outlook on life. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Ruth's favorite hobbies over the years included fishing, camping, canoeing, and attending car shows with her beloved husband, Marvin. She also enjoyed playing scrabble, card-making, discussing politics, and keeping up with her grandchildren on social media.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Marvin, children: Tony Hayes of Lincoln NE, Rusty Hayes and wife Christy of Red Oak, and Angie Hayes and husband Bill Rigby of Red Oak, grandchildren, Cree, Caitlin, Jasmine, Erica, Aaron, Jimmy, Rikki, Madison, and Rowyn, and great-grandson Declan, sister Cherie Cotsifas of Pleasant Hill, CA, and brother George Menzies of Red Oak. She was preceded in death by her parents, and grandson Nicholas Hayes.
A private celebration of life will be held later in her home.
