Ruth Dorothy Berggren, the daughter of Otto and Anna Wigstone Berggren, was born July 13, 1903 at Stanton, Iowa. She passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at the Valley View Village, Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 104 years, 6 months and 2 days. Ruth was baptized and confirmed at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton, Iowa. She attended Pittsburg Country School and graduated from Stanton High School in l923. After graduation, she moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where she took care of children in homes, while attending Des Moines University. Ruth graduated from Des Moines University with a teaching degree. Ruth and her sister, Frances, lived together all their adult life in Des Moines. Ruth worked for Equitable Life Insurance Company for 35 years. She joined the Capital Hill Lutheran Church in l927 and was a very active member. Ruth and her sister, Frances kept the financial membership records of the congregation for many years. She worked with a group of seven other women to make over 2,500 quilts from donated clothing and material, for C.R.O.P., Lutheran Relief, many missionaries throughout the world, and homeless people in Des Moines. In October of 1994, Ruth moved to Valley View Village in Des Moines. She resided in their Health Care Center for the last two and a half years. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Arthur G.; five sisters: Frances, Pearline, Mabel, Viola and Ermina. Ruth is survived by nephews: Robert Berggren and wife Lynette of Clarksville, TN; Fred Berggren and wife Sharon of Nodaway, IA; David Berggren and wife Connie of Red Oak, IA; nieces: JoAnn Butler of Red Oak, IA; Mary Jantz and husband Dwight of Meno, OK; great-nephews and nieces; along with other relatives and friends. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Mamrelund Cemetery Old Cemetery Stanton, Iowa Rev.
