Ruth Olivia Louise McFarland, the daughter of Arvid N. and Anna Viola (Johnson) Malmberg was born May 14, 1921 in Montgomery County, Iowa. She passed away on Monday, October 28, 2013 at Welcov Assisted Living, Papillion, Nebraska at the age of 92 years, 5 months and 14 days. Ruth attended country school near Villisca, Iowa for six months before the family moved to Stanton, Iowa. She completed her education, graduating from Stanton High School. Ruth played basketball in her high school years and during her senior year was named to the All County Team. Ruth was united in marriage to Richard McFarland on February 8, 1948 at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton. They farmed in the Wales, Essex and Villisca areas before moving into Red Oak in l963. Ruth worked at the Thomas D. Murphy Calendar company for 26 years. She was a member of the 15-20 year club of Thomas D. Murphy Calendar, a longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Eagles Auxiliary in Red Oak. Ruth and Richard enjoyed trips a few times a year during retirement to their favorite place, Branson, Missouri to see good country shows. She enjoyed music and loved her family dearly. Ruth moved to Harmony Court in Bellevue, Nebraska in 2006. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard on February 27, 2005; sister, Dorothy Streitenberger; and brothers: Olaf Malmberg and Kermit Malmberg. Ruth is survived by her three children: Lyle (Carol) McFarland of Omaha, NE; Christine (Glenn) Miller of Millard, NE; and Dennis McFarland and friend Annette Petersen of Elkhorn, NE; 6 grandchildren: Lyle "Chad" (Melanie) McFarland, Amy McFarland, Michael McFarland, Jeremy (Maria) McFarland, Jamie Miller and Scott R.E. (Jessica) Miller; 6 great-grandchildren: Wesley and Riley Miller, Nathan and Brandon McFarland, Isabella and Madeline McFarland; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Visitation with the family will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 from 9:30 a.m until service time at 10:30 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Rev.
