Sharon Kay Olander, the daughter of Lisle H. and Dorothy S. (Selser) Downey was born February 18, 1938 in Red Oak, Iowa. She passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 14 days. Sharon lived in Pilot Grove Township her entire life. She graduated from Elliott High School and attended Jennie Edmundson Nursing School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She received her LPN and worked a few years for Dr. Johnson in Griswold. Sharon was united in marriage to Merrill L. Olander on March 1, 1959 in Red Oak and purchased their farm. Sharon and Merrill made this farm their home all their married days. She was a busy homemaker, raising her sons and helping Merrill with farm work. Sharon enjoyed gardening, growing roses and antiquing. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Merrill on August 23, 2010 and parents. Sharon is survived by her sons: Jon Olander and wife Ruth of Lake Villa, IL; and Greg Olander and wife Mary Beth of West Des Moines, IA; six grandchildren: Ellie, Marie, Laura, David, Jenna and Jessica; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Terry McClain, Officiating Visitation with the family present at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Friday evening, December 5 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Family requests memorials in lieu of flowers to the Elliott Fire Department.
