Obituary

Shirley Joan Lewis, the daughter of Robert and Vernita Peterson Crouse was born May 24, 1940 in Mills County, Iowa southeast of Glenwood. She passed away Saturday, October 9, 2010 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 70 years, 4 months and 15 days. Shirley was raised on a farm in the Stanton area. She graduated from Stanton High School in l958. Following graduation she worked 3 years for the telephone company in Glenwood, Iowa. Shirley was united in marriage to Donovan Lewis on June 4, 1960 in Wales, Iowa. They made their home and farmed east of Wales for 43 years. Shirley served on the Montgomery County Extension Council for 4-H and enjoyed sewing. She worked 9 years for the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in the dietary department. In 2003, Shirley and Donovan moved to Red Oak. Shirley was a member of the Center Ridge Presbyterian Church. Shirley was preceded in death by her father, and infant brother, Norman. Shirley is survived by her husband, Donovan Lewis of Red Oak, IA; sons: Robert Lewis and companion Dianne Fritz of Tabor, IA; and Thomas Lewis and wife Tammi of Red Oak, IA; three granddaughters: Courtney Hamilton, Ashley Lewis and McKenna Lewis; mother, Vernita Crouse of Stanton, IA; brothers: Richard Crouse and wife Lucille of Nodaway, IA; and Warren Crouse and wife Deb of Red Oak, IA; sisters: Karen Sundberg of Red Oak, IA; and Judi Crouse of Council Bluffs, IA; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak Burial in Center Ridge Cemetery, Northwest of Red Oak Rev. J. Keith Cook, Officiating Visitation with the family present on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Family requests memorials in lieu of flowers to the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Foundation or Nishna Productions Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
