Obituary

Shirley Marie Reynolds, the daughter of Ora and Ida Charlotte (Shelton) Pennington, was born July 31, 1938, on a farm near Hopkins, Missouri. She passed away suddenly on Monday, July 21, 2025, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 86 years, 11 months, and 21 days.

Shirley graduated from Hopkins High School. On September 19, 1959, Shirley was united in marriage to Eugene Reynolds, in Savannah, Missouri. The couple farmed near Fillmore, Missouri until 1964, when they relocated to a farm north of Stanton, Iowa. They continued farming there until 1979. Shirley and Eugene later moved to Arispe, Iowa, and then returned to Fillmore, two years later. In 1982, they settled again in the Stanton community. Shirley began working at the Earl May store in Red Oak in 1983, remaining there until its closure. She then worked at Dollar General, until her retirement. Shirley enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, and pottery. She especially loved baking for her children and grandchildren. Shirley was a member of the River of Life Church in Red Oak, and a former member of Eastern Star. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and ever-helpful nature.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene on April 1, 2013; sister, Annie Reents and brother, Bill Pennington.

Shirley is survived by her two sons: Russell (Tracy) Reynolds of Stanton, IA and Scott (Cecilia) Reynolds of Blair, NE; five grandchildren: Melinda (Marshall) Adams, Candice (Michael) Morris, Dennis (Tanya) Reynolds, Tyler (Katie) Reynolds and Scharley (Forrest) Reynolds; several great-grandchildren; and sister, Edna Bates of Elwood, NE; other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.
At Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak, IA
Burial will be at a later date in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Nyman

Visitation with the family will be held on Friday evening, July 25, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. a t Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home

Memorials may be directed to the Shriners Children's Hospital.
