Obituary

Shirley Pauline St. Clair, the daughter of Charles J. and Ruth Rynerson Strutz was born May 21, 1920 in Adair, Iowa. She died on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 91 years, 3 months and 7 days. Shirley was raised in Atlantic, Iowa where she graduated from high school. She was united in marriage to Paul A. St. Clair on April 9, 1939 in Maryville, Missouri. In 1945, they moved to Seattle, Washington, and in 1948 to Griswold, Iowa where Paul worked as a farmhand. In 1949, Shirley and Paul made their home in Red Oak, having lived here since. That same year, Shirley also began a 36 year career with Union Carbide Battery Company in Red Oak, retiring in June of l985. She enjoyed baking and going to garage sales. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul A. St. Clair on May 10, 1997; an infant son, Gary; 2 brothers: William and Charles Strutz; and sister, Phyllis Petrie. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Shyrel St. Clair of Red Oak, IA; grandchildren: Eric Chestelson and wife Jennifer of California and Kerrie Snyder of Council Bluffs, IA; three great-grandchildren: brother, James Strutz of Seattle, WA; and sister, Beverly Grainger and husband Earl of New Smyrna Beach, FL; other relatives and friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak. Rev. Fred Pilecki, Officiating Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
