Stephen Eugene
Bowman
January 16, 1948 – March 27, 2021
Stephen Eugene Bowman, the son of Robert and Rena Bowman, was born January 16, 1948 in Red Oak, IA. He passed away peacefully at home on March 27, 2021 at the age of 73 years, 2 months and 11 days.
Steve was raised on a farm with his three older siblings. The family had a house on Lake Okoboji which was one of his favorite places to spend time. After Steve graduated from Red Oak High school, he studied journalism and marketing at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He started the Bowman Marketing Group in 1981 which he operated until his passing. Steve loved writing and published Morning Ran Red (1986), When the Eagle Screams (1994) and Operation Monarch (2000) and had several books in various stages of completion. Morning Ran Red was a story of the unsolved 1912 Villisca Axe Murders. His last few days were spent enjoying time with his grandchildren and his beloved cat, Sam.
Steve was always positive and will be remembered for his bad dad jokes, his constant singing, and unending enthusiasm. He always said that the trick to success is to keep life in perspective. Both pain and joy will come and go, so it is important to take them both in stride and to keep a good sense of humor.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert Lee Bowman, and sister Janet Lea Bright.
Steve is survived by his sister Lynne Smith of Independence, Missouri; his children Zachary Bowman of Omaha, Nebraska and Kate Harris of Meridian, Idaho; stepchildren: Ryan (Jodi) Ludington of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Michael (Shannon) Ludington of Glenwood, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Benjamin and Jorja Harris of Meridian, Idaho, Jacob Cowan and Amber Benton of Omaha, Nebraska, Chloe Kellogg, and Payton and Eli Ludington of Council Bluffs, Iowa; his nephew Brian (Mindy) Bowman as well as one great grandchild; many other nieces and nephews, along with other relatives and friends.
May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn.
