Sylvia Faye Peterson, the daughter of Roy M. and Della F. Green Kirby was born June 23, 1923 in Fremont County, Iowa. She passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at the Belleville Healthcare Center, Belleville, KS at the age of 89 years, 4 months and 12 days. Faye moved to the Stanton area with her parents at a very young age. She graduated from Stanton High School in l941. Faye was united in marriage to Ivan L. Peterson on January 18, 1942 in Omaha, NE. In 1946, Faye and Ivan moved to Red Oak. Faye enjoyed the years her girls were in Girl Scouts and she served as a leader. In 1955, Faye went to work for Union Carbide Battery Company and retired in 1983, after 28 years. Faye shared her many talents with family and friends. She loved to cook and bake and was well known for her world famous fried chicken, potato salad and cinnamon rolls. During the Christmas season, Faye would make many different cookies and candy to be shared. She enjoyed ceramics, crocheting and counter-cross stitching. For a gift shop in Kansas, she would complete counter-cross stitch pieces so the shop could display the finished pattern. Faye loved traveling over all the lower 48 states and Hawaii. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and active in her circle along with their sewing and missions group. Being a 'people person' she enjoyed volunteering at Vista Gardens for 10 years, spending time once a month with the retired ladies from Union Carbide, and being a part of a birthday club. Faye treasured her family and dearly loved her grandchildren, attending all their activities and sporting events in Iowa and Kansas. She was always ready to play cards and games with them every chance she had. Faye was a lovely lady with a beautiful smile and wonderful sense of humor. Faye was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ivan Peterson on December 18, 1980; and three brothers: Paul, Orville, and Wayne. Faye is survived by her two daughters: Konnie Bass and husband Byron of Spirit Lake, IA; and Betty Fischer and husband Harold of Republic, KS; four grandchildren: Brent Jennifer Bass of Essex, IA; Jennifer Jerry Jacob of Phoenix, AZ; Matthew Jarnee' Fischer of Salina, KS; and Scott Christy Fischer of Park City, KS; eight great-grandchildren: Hannah, Payten, Camryn and Aubrey Bass; Zachary and Sierra Ann Jacob; and Gabriella and Alessandra Fischer; sister, Muriel Gustafson of McAllen, TX; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends. Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, November 9, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Red Oak, IA Burial in Mamre Cemetery, Stanton, IA Rev.
