Velma Dorothea Peterson, 90, of Stanton, IA was born June 26, 1930 to Arthur and Elsie (Doedon) Ebeler at Syracuse, Nebraska. She passed away on Monday, May 17, 2021 at Vintage Park, Lenox, Iowa, at the age of 90 years, 10 months, and 21 days.

Velma was raised in Syracuse, NE, before the family moved to Auburn, NE, where she graduated from high school in 1948. She worked in Omaha as a bookkeeper for Travelers Insurance Company. On December 10, 1960, Velma was united in marriage to Daryl William Peterson at Omaha, NE and to this union 3 sons were born, Kirby, Neil and Brian. They lived in Stanton, IA from 1960 until 1965, Clarinda, IA from 1965 until 1970 and Coin, IA from 1970 until 1976. In 1976, they made their home for 21 years in Sidney, IA and in 1997, returned to Stanton, IA. Velma loved to cook and was the family organizer. Over the years, she had her own accounting company and filed income taxes for clients. Velma was preceded in death by her son, Kirby; parents; two sisters: Arlene and Ruth and five brothers: Art, Marvin, Eldro, Walter, and Wesley.

Velma is survived by husband, Daryl Peterson of Stanton, IA; sons: Neil W. Peterson and wife, Anitha Lakshmanan of Melbourne, FL and Brian A. Peterson and wife, Vicki Ward of Olathe, KS; brother, David Ebeler of Colorado, and other family members and friends.

Memorial Graveside Service will be held Friday, May 28, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Mamre Cemetery, Stanton, IA. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the service. Rev. Sandra Wainwright, Officiating.
