Vera Evelyn Hoover, the daughter of James E. and Della Thompson Hendrix was born May 22, 1918 in Murray, Iowa. She passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 91 years, 4 months and 5 days. Vera attended grade school in Kent, Iowa. Her high school years were lived in Hysham, MT and then Red Oak, IA. In 1936, Vera was united in marriage to Harold O. Lewis in Glenwood, IA. Harold died on April 14, 1958. She was later united in marriage to George E. Hoover in l961 at Long Beach, CA. George died on August 28, 1987. Vera lived most of her life in Red Oak, but she also had lived and traveled to Missouri, Nebraska, Montana, California, Texas, Georgia and Hawaii. During her career, Vera worked at Beatrice Creamery, Green Parrott, Moore's Donut Shop, Jensen's Floral and Greenhouse, Union Carbide Battery Company, and the Red Coach Inn. Vera was a member of the First Baptist Church in Red Oak having served as a Sunday School teacher and with the Clowns for the Kingdom. She enjoyed singing and sang in the church choir and with the Warblers. Vera was an active member of V.F.W. Auxiliary #2265. Vera was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; 4 brothers: Fred, Kenneth Lauris and her twin brother, Vernon; 3 sisters: Eula, Grace, and Margaret; and granddaughter, Laura Louise Lewis. Vera is survived by children: Russell Lewis and wife Neta of Norfolk, NE; Mary Jane Adams and husband Marvin of Emerson, IA; David Lewis and wife Linda of Council Bluffs, IA; and Robert Hoover of California; 9 grandchildren: Jerry Adams and wife Cathy of Emerson, IA; Robert Adams and wife Julie of West Des Moines, IA; Richard Adams of LaVista, NE; Vicki Mullin and husband Randy of Wisconsin; Russell A. Lewis and wife Marie of New Brighton, MN; Michael Lewis of St. Paul, MN; David Nathan Lewis and wife Joan of Glidden, IA; Andrew Lewis of Council Bluffs, IA; and Kristi Crouch and husband Joe of Greenwood, NE; 7 great-grandchildren: Emily Adams, Ian Adams, Summer Lewis, Nathan Lewis, Elizabeth Siedbenalar and husband Christopher, George David Lewis, and Nathan Wayne Lewis; 4 great-great-grandchildren: Autumn Miller, Brecken Siebenalar, Leighton Siebenalar, and Hudson Siebenalar; and sister-in-law, Carlene Hendrix of Pontotoc, MS; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends.
