Obituary

Vera Iona Lindsey, the daughter of William and Elva Gard Bateman, was born May 22, 1920 in Fremont County, Iowa. She passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 16 days. Vera was raised in Fremont County, northwest of Shenandoah, Iowa. She lived with her aunt and helped care for her children. Vera was united in marriage to Joe Lindsey on May 2, 1942 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Vera and Joe have made their home in Red Oak since 1942. She assisted Joe with the Lindsey Garage & Wrecker Service from 1942, until retirement in 2006. Vera was a past member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jackie Lindsey on July 1, 2004; granddaughter, Shelley, and sister, Wilma Dwinger. Vera is survived by her husband of 66 years, Joe Lindsey of Red Oak, IA; daughter, Judy Cooper and husband Jerry of Tingley, IA; two grandchildren: Jeff Cooper and wife Julie of Grand Junction, IA; and Julie Ackley and husband Jason of Tingley, IA; two great-grandchildren: Hanna and Triston; sister, Faye Royer of Coin, IA; a nephew, two nieces, other relatives and friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Rev. Trevor Skalberg, Officiating Open viewing on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home. A memorial is being established in Vera's name. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
