Verlin ?Vern? Elvis Stogdill, the son of Cyrus and Normanda Stogdill was born November 5, 1922 near New Market, Iowa. He passed away Friday, January 29, 2010 at the Veterans Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska, the age of 87 years, 2 months and 24 days. Vern was raised near New Market and moved with his parents to a farm near Shambaugh and later to Coin, Iowa. He entered the U. S. Amy on January 19, 1943 serving during WW II at Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland. He was honorably discharge on May 2, 1946. Vern returned to Coin and later to the state of Nevada. In 1960, he moved to Red Oak. He later moved to Lenox, Iowa in l997, returning back to Red Oak in 2005. Vern enjoyed a lifelong career of farming. He also loved music, which was evident by his large collection. His two dogs held a special place in his heart. He enjoyed the outdoors and riding his scooter around town. Vern was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, 3 brothers and a great-grandchild. Vern is survived by children: Danny Stogdill of Red Oak, IA; Nevada Watson and husband Dale of Stanton, IA; 6 grandchildren: Julie White and husband Justin; Mandy Serna; Morgan Dunkeson and husband Dustin; Amber Nelson and husband Adam; Lynette Moses; Rob Latus and wife Wendy; 6 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Burial in Memory Cemetery, New Market, IA Rev. Elizabeth Dilley, Officiating Visitation with the family present at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home on Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A memorial is being established in Vern?s name. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
