Verna Mae Erickson, the daughter of Carl and Agnes (Sederburg) Carlsward was born May 24, 1917 in Page County, Iowa. She passed away suddenly with her family by her side on Sunday, February 10, 2013 in Emeryville, California at the age of 95 years, 8 months and 17 days. Verna attended country school, high school and Tarkio College. She was an active member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church, where she met her husband. Verna was united in marriage to Ambrose L. Erickson on May 29, 1938 in Stanton, Iowa. Verna had lived in Stanton and later, for many years in Red Oak. Verna was as excellent business woman, managing three beauty salons in her 30 year career as a beautician. She also managed the family farm following the death of Ambrose on July 8, 1972. Verna was an 18 year member of Red Oak B.P.W., 25 years with the National Hairdressers Association and a long time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Red Oak. She loved her family, music and dancing. Verna was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sisters: Ruby Jean, Della, Rachel, Nina and Frances. Verna is survived by her two sons: Joe Erickson of Discovery Bay, CA; and Eugene Erickson and wife Judy of Addison, MI; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends.
