Obituary

Vernon Robert Taylor, the son of Seymour and Lenora Towne Taylor was born August 3, 1918 in Douglas Township of Montgomery County, near Grant, Iowa. He passed away Saturday, September 18, 2010 at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 92 years, 1 month and 15 days. Vernon attended country school and graduated from Grant High School. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Esther Porter on December 19, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa. For several years, Vernon and his brother owned and operated a gas station in Grant. In 1951, Vernon and Phyllis moved to Gardena, California. Vernon worked as an airline machinist for North American Aviation, now Boeing. He retired in 1979, after 28 years of service. Following retirement, they made Apple Valley, CA their home for 10 years. In 1989, Vernon and Phyllis moved to Elliott, IA and later that year to Red Oak. In l999, they moved to Brookridge Apartments in Atlantic, IA. Vernon was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Red Oak, IA. He enjoyed traveling and puttering around the house and yard. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers: Loren and Jack. Vernon is survived by his wife of 66 years, Phyllis Taylor of Atlantic, IA; son, Les Taylor and wife Julie of Stafford, VA; granddaughter, Kim Taylor of Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law, Helen Taylor of Grant, IA; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Burial in Grant Cemetery, Grant, Iowa Rev. Fred Pilecki, Officiating Visitation with the family will be held Thursday, one hour before the service, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Due to severe family asthma they request memorials to the donor's choice in lieu of flowers. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
