Victor Harold Allender, the son of Joseph and Viola Mertz Allender was born April 11, 1924 in Red Oak, Iowa. He passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at his daughter's home in Glendale, Arizona at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 20 days. Victor grew up in Red Oak and graduated from Red Oak High School. He entered the U.S. Army on January 5, 1949 serving in the Korean War, and was honorably discharged on January 7, 1952. Victor was united in marriage to Wanda J. Johnson and to this union five children were born. They made their home in Omaha, Nebraska until l953, when they moved to Phoenix, Arizona. For 32 years, Victor worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a supervisor. He was a strong Christian man and was proud of his children, and that his three sons earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Victor was preceded in death by his parents, brother, James Allender and sister, Helen Armstrong. Victor is survived by five children: Victor P. Allender and wife Lorraine of Phoenix, AZ; James Allender of Phoenix, AZ; John Allender of Phoenix, AZ; Sherri Anthony of Glendale, AZ; and Joyce Cox of Phoenix, AZ; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; along with other relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Rev. Len Taylor, Officiating Victor's wishes were to have memorials directed to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.
