Viola Mae Krecklow, the daughter of Harry and Amelia Achenbach Horn was born April 29, 1923 south of Malvern in Mills County, Iowa. She passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 24 days. Viola was raised in the Malvern area and graduated from Hastings High School. In 1946, she moved to Red Oak. Viola was united in marriage to Orville L. Krecklow on February 28, 1946 in Troy, Kansas. Viola and Orville made their home in Red Oak where Viola worked part time for the Thos D. Murphy Calendar Company. Over the years, Viola enjoyed sewing and reading. She kept busy making "lap robes" for family and friends and especially loved sewing fabric calendar quilts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; each quilt began with the year the child was born. Viola also enjoyed family genealogy and devoted many hours to her research. She treasured her family dearly and will be remembered by them as having "a heart of gold." Viola was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Red Oak. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orville on October 22, 2004; son, Harry H. Krecklow; four sisters: Amy LaFollette, Ruhama Thomas, Fern Eyberg, and Loretta Kaut; and two brothers: Harold and Paul Horn. Viola is survived by two grandchildren: Traci Ertle and husband Mark of Brighton, CO; and James Krecklow and wife Lisa of Littleton, CO; six great-grandchildren: Alex Krecklow, Garrett Krecklow, Leanne Ertle, Madison Mae Ertle, and twins, Elise and McKenna Ertle; sister, Mrs. Mildred Canaday of Council Bluffs, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Memorial Graveside Service will be held May 2, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Rev. Fred Pilecki, Officiating Family and friends may gather at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. for procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the American Cancer Society. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
