Virgil R. Dunn, age 80, of Red Oak, Iowa Virgil Ross Dunn, the son of Lloyd and Jessie Gemmill Dunn was born December 14, 1927 in Indian Creek Township of Mills County, Iowa. He passed away on Friday, January 4, 2008 after an extended illness at the Good Samaritan Center, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 80 years and 21 days. Virgil was raised in Red Oak, IA where he attended school. When he was 14 years old he began working at Martin's Produce. During WW II, Virgil moved to Utah to work. After moving back to Red Oak, he worked for J.D. Oil. Virgil was united in marriage to Patty Sutter on December 13, 1948 in Council Bluffs, IA. Shortly afterwards, Virgil went to work for Leonard Nelson Construction. He became a heavy equipment operator and worked for them many years. Patty passed away on June 14, 1972. Virgil later married Peggy Edwards on February 13, 1978 in Omaha, NE; she passed away on March 15, 1997. Virgil enjoyed nature and watching the Martins flock to the Martin bird houses he built. He enjoyed yard work, and was proud of his well manicured yard along with his pet parrot. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and having coffee with Gladys and Keith. The past few years, Virgil shared special time with Jean Akers. Virgil is survived by two sons: Jesse Dunn of Red Oak, IA; and Ronnie Dunn of Creston, IA; a grandchild; sister: Gladys Bridges and husband Keith of Red Oak, IA; nephews, nieces and other relatives, along with a host of friends. Private Graveside Memorial Service was held Monday, January 7, 2008 at Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, Iowa Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
