Vivian Nadine Sohl, the daughter of Wesley and Inga Skorheim Blackwell was born January 12, 1926 in Platte, South Dakota. She passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 3 days. Vivian grew up in Platte, South Dakota graduating from Platte High School. She moved to Omaha where she worked at the bomber plant. Vivian was united in marriage to Kenneth Sohl on August 8, 1947 in Omaha, Nebraska. They lived a short time in Chariton, Iowa. In 1948, Kenneth and Vivian moved to Red Oak where they made their home and raised their four children. At different times in Vivian's career, she worked at Spurgeon's, managed Kolterman's Variety Store, and later worked for The Paint Store. Vivian was an active lady and enjoyed golfing, bowling, and sewing. She loved playing bridge and other card games with friends and family. Vivian was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Red Oak; the American Legion Auxiliary having served as president for 12 years; Faith Rebekah Lodge #174; and Order of Eastern Star # 95. Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Don, Larry and Francis; three sisters: Delores, Eileen and an infant sister. Vivian is survived by her husband: Kenneth Sohl of Red Oak, IA; three sons: Duane Sohl and wife Carol of Chicago, IL; Ronald Sohl and wife Judy of Garland, TX; and Robert Sohl and wife Sharon of College Springs, IA; daughter: Carol Colvin of Omaha, NE; 14 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brother: Dwain Blackwell and wife Jean of Chamberlain, SD; and sister: Betty Nielsen and husband John of Chamberlain, SD, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral Service will be held Monday, May 19, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Red Oak Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Rev. Nancy Schultz, Officiating Visitation with the family present will be held Sunday, May 18, 2008 at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Memorial to the Alzheimer's Association Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
