Walter William Bill Scott, the son of Walter Burton and Anna (Pierce) Scott was born March 27, 1932 in Page County, Iowa. He passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at his home in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 14 days. Walt was raised in southwest Iowa. In 1951, he graduated from New Market High School, New Market, Iowa. Walt was united in marriage to Wanda Calhoon on July 13, 1952 at New Market. He entered the U.S. Army on July 23, 1952, serving during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged on June 23, 1954. Following his military service, Walt farmed for 8 years. Walt and Wanda moved to Red Oak in 1963, when he began a 31 year career with Iowa Power now MidAmerican Energy, retiring in 1994. Walt enjoyed many hobbies: painting, woodcarving, woodworking, riding his motorcycle, fishing, deer hunting, golfing and playing bridge. He was a wonderful storyteller and could visit with anyone. During retirement, Walt and Wanda enjoyed 18 winters in Alamo, Texas. Walt was a 50 year member of the Red Oak Masonic Lodge #162 A.F. & A.M., where he was a past Worshipful Master and past Demolay leader. Walt was also a member of the American Legion Lorraine Post #67 and Rainbow Coffee Club, both in Red Oak. Walt was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim Scott and sister, Sara Carmichael and a infant sister. Walt is survived by his wife of 62 years, Wanda Scott of Red Oak, IA; children: Marvin Scott and wife Brenda of Essex, IA, Kathy Carlson and husband Roger of Red Oak, IA and Bev Schmid and husband Bill of Red Oak, IA; 8 grandchildren: Jason (Heidi) Scott, DeeAnn Husa, Dawn (Troy) McIntyre, Amy (Fred) Ivins, Kelly (Josh) Osheim, Tony (Alix) Carlson, Jessie Carlson and Amanda Carlson; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers: Fred (Lila) Scott of Bethany, MO and Dick Scott of Stanton, IA; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church Military Rites and burial at Salem Cemetery, southwest of Red Oak Rev. Caryn Pedersen, Officiating Masonic Service will be held Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home. Visitation with family present will immediately follow until 8:00 p.m. Memorials to the American Cancer Society or Heartland Hospice. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
