Obituary

Wanda Alberta Johnson, the daughter of Henry L. and Virgie (Crain) VanGundy, was born February 29, 1928 at Kinta, Oklahoma. She passed away suddenly at her home on Friday, March 27, 2015 in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 87 years and 27days. Wanda graduated from high school in l946 at Quinton, Oklahoma. She then moved to Alameda, California. Wanda was united in marriage to Wesley C. Johnson on November 18, 1950 at Oakland, California. They continued to live at Alameda until 1972, when they moved to Red Oak. Wanda has sold Avon for 40 plus years and collected for all those years a vast collection of their bottles. After the death of her husband, Wesley in l986, she worked in the Displaced Homemakers Program, working with West Central Development, Iowa Workforce and Head Start. Wanda was a member of the First United Methodist Church, V.F.W. Auxiliary in Red Oak and many years as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wesley on March 13, 1986; son, Donald Johnson; a brother and 6 sisters. Wanda is survived by two sons: Alan Johnson of Red Oak, IA and Jeff Johnson of Loveland, CO; daughter-in-law, Gayla Johnson of Ft. Collins, CO; 5 grandchildren: Cody (Jennifer) Johnson of Ft. Collins, CO, Lea (Jay Lott) Johnson of Buena Vista, CO, Josh (Misty) Johnson of Omaha, NE, Dustin (Kristie) Johnson of Papillion, NE and Sarah Johnson of Omaha, NE; 5 great-grandchildren: Adalina, Dakota, Parker, Emma and Payton; brother-in-law, Wayne Johnson of Corning, CA; sisters-in-law: Elzene Jamison of Kansas City, MO, Lola Hasselquist of Malvern, IA, Vernita Kruse of Glenwood, IA, LaDonna Deitchler of Mineola, IA and Orla Jean Jackson of Henderson, IA; many nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Burial at Strand Cemetery, Adams County, IA Rev. Fred Pilecki, Officiating Visitation with the family present on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Memorials to the American Cancer Society. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
