Obituary

Wesley Arden Erickson, the son of C. Arthur and Edna F. (Johnson) Erickson was born June 30, 1915 on the family farm southeast of Stanton, Iowa. He passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 97 years, 9 months and 8 days. Wesley was raised on the family farm and graduated from Stanton High School in l932. He began his farming career with his father after high school. Wesley entered the U. S. Army on June 5, 1942, serving during WW II. On February 14, 1944, Wesley was united in marriage to Gladys M. Hultquist in Stanton, Iowa. Following his military service in the Pacific Theater, Wesley received his honorable discharge on January 13, 1945. He returned to Stanton, purchased land adjacent to his parents, and he and Gladys started their family and life together. Wesley was a true conservationist and proud of his part in the Erickson Wildlife area. He was a member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church and American Legion Ernie Johnson Post #406, both of Stanton. Wesley enjoyed reading, keeping up on current events, and was one who loved to fix his own equipment and property. In May of 2011, Wesley took a trip with the WW II Honor Flight to Washington D.C. and often spoke highly about it. Wesley was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gladys Erickson on March 7, 2011; and sister, Daryl Erickson on October 31, 2011. Wesley is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Hanson and husband, Robert of Maplewood, MN; granddaughter, Lia Sacco of Millbrae, CA; and great-grandsons: Antonio and Matteo; along with other relatives and friends. May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn. Celebration of Life Gathering and Luncheon will be held Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at Mamrelund Lutheran Church, Stanton, IA following a private graveside service at Mamre Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Stanton Fire & Rescue, Mamrelund Lutheran Church or Iowa Hospice. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
