Obituary

William Duane Oakleaf, the son of Reuben William Oakleaf and Dorothy Nadine Fort was born November 15, 1932 in Page County, Iowa. He passed away on Friday, June 11, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak, Iowa, the age of 77 years, 6 months and 22 days.

Duane was raised on a farm in Montgomery County, IA. He graduated in l950 from Elliott High School, Elliott, IA. Following high school, Duane began working for a feed company. He later worked as a farmhand. Duane was united in marriage to Judith A. Renn on August 23, 1959 in Red Oak, IA. In 1961, Duane began a 38-year career in golf turf management. He worked 19 years as superintendent for the Red Oak Country Club and in 1981, became the superintendent for NVRA of Griswold, IA. In 2000, after 19 years at Griswold, he retired. Duane enjoyed the outdoors and grass and lawn work. He began mowing for others and soon established 'Oaklawn Mowing', operating the business alongside with his wife Judy until 2010. Duane loved to bowl, fish, garden, and was the best maker of peanut brittle. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Iowa Hawkeyes and NASCAR. Duane treasured spending time with family and especially adored his grandchildren. He was a member of Iowa Golf Course Superintendents.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Oakleaf; brothers: Darrell and Melvin; and sister, Glenice Carlson.

Duane is survived by his wife, Judy Oakleaf of Red Oak, IA; sons: Michael Oakleaf and wife Rhonda of Red Oak, IA; Scott Oakleaf and wife Kelly of Elliott, IA; and Brian Oakleaf and wife Amy of Elliott, IA; 7 grandchildren: Ross Oakleaf, Alex Oakleaf, Austin Oakleaf, Holly Rider, Brenna Oakleaf, Treighton Oakleaf, and Reaghan Oakleaf; sisters: Linda Oakleaf of Red Oak, IA and Barbara Hamernik and husband Don of Red Oak, IA; brothers: Kenneth Oakleaf and wife Carol of Overland Park, KS; and David Oakleaf of Red Oak, IA; brothers-in-law: Junior Renn and wife Margaret of Red Oak, IA and Robert Renn of Red Oak, IA; sister-in-law, Cecelia Oakleaf of Glendale, AZ; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, June 14, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.
