William Richard Schmid, the son of Richard W. and Elsie L. (Dubberke) Schmid was born March 10, 1951 at Cambridge, Nebraska. He passed away after a brief illness on Monday, January 26, 2015 at his home in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 63 years, 10 months and 16 days. Bill grew up in western Nebraska. He entered the U.S. Navy on October 27, 1969, during Vietnam and served all over the world. Bill was honorably discharged on June 29, 1973. He lived in Florida for a few years before making Omaha, Nebraska his home. He lived and worked in Omaha as a computer programmer for over 30 years. Bill was united in marriage to Beverly D. Scott on August 30, 2008 in Hawaii and in 2012, they moved to Red Oak, Iowa. Bill was an avid cycler; he enjoyed riding his bike on many long trips and in National Parks. He also enjoyed camping, traveling, golf and nature. Bill especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Walter Scott. Bill is survived by his wife, Beverly Schmid of Red Oak, IA; children: Stephanie Poncelow and husband David of Papillion, NE; Kristen Schmid of Denver, CO; Dawn McIntyre and husband Troy of Council Bluffs, IA; and Amy Ivins and husband Fred of Omaha, NE; 11 grandchildren; sister, Linda Pentecost and husband Bob of Omaha, NE; mother-in-law, Wanda Scott of Red Oak, IA; brother-in-law, Marvin Scott and wife Brenda of Essex, IA; and sister-in-law, Kathy Carlson and husband Roger of Red Oak, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn. Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church, Red Oak, IA Rev. Caryn Pedersen, Officiating Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service on Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church, Red Oak, IA Memorials may be directed in Bill's name to the Community Bike Project of Omaha, NE or Red Oak Friends of the Trails bench project.
