Obituary

Wilma Mae Myers, the daughter of Leo Tracy and Priscilla Rhamy Ekstrand was born August 24, 1918 near Prescott, Iowa in Adams County. She passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 93 years, 10 months and 10 days. As a child, Wilma lived in Adams County and later in Morton Mills. Wilma was united in marriage to Edwin L. Myers on September 14, 1935 at the Strand Church in Adams County, IA. They moved to Red Oak in l945. For a time, Wilma worked in food services having been employed at the Donut Shop, Lovett's, Tom's Ice Cream Bar and as a cook at Johnny's. She later devoted 23 years to the Union Carbide Battery Company. After the death of Edwin on March 30, 1986, Wilma married Ivan Smith on November 16, 1996. Ivan passed away on January 4, 2002. In 2005, Wilma moved to Villisca. Wilma was a talented seamstress, crotchetier, and quilter, having made quilts for all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She also collected dolls and was an avid reader. Wilma loved her animals, especially her dogs and cats. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Red Oak and most recently attended the Advent Christian Church of Villisca. She was also a longtime member of the Eagles Lodge Auxiliary. Wilma was preceded in death by both her husbands; two daughters: Doris Myers; and LaDonna Spooner and her husband Kenneth; two brothers: Calvin and Harold; four grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Wilma is survived by her five sons: Lyle and wife Kay of Red Oak, IA; Dean and wife Joyce of Villisca, IA; Dale and wife Olivia of Ingram, TX; Lynn and wife Debra of New Brunswick, TX; and Donald and wife Kathy of Villisca, IA; 23 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; and five step-children: Jerry Smith; Gary Smith and wife Jeanne; Roger Smith and wife Cheri; Mary Board; and Dolores Blay and husband Larry; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Friday, July 6, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Burial at Lincoln Center Cemetery in Adams County, IA Rev. Gene Ekstrand and Rev. Darren Brisco, Officiating Visitation with the family present on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Memorials may be directed to Red Oak Eagles Lodge or Villisca Advent Christian Church.
