Obituary

Winfield Gaynor (Win) Mayne passed away peacefully November 14, 2025 at Accura HealthCare of Stanton, Iowa. He was born on March 7, 1940 in Sioux City, Iowa, to Winfield S. and Ann (Gaynor) Mayne.

Win was a 1958 graduate of Red Oak Community School in Red Oak Iowa. In 1962 he graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration   from the University of Iowa. Win served from March 1963 to March 1965 in the US Army, achieving rank of 1st Lt. Win had a passion for military history, especially the Civil War era and had done extensive research on his family's military accomplishments. He was a banker and financial planner in Red Oak, Iowa for many years.

Win held a special place in his heart for summers spent at Lake Okoboji with family and friends. Known for his love of nature, he could often be found enjoying a glass of wine on his deck or beside a crackling fire. His favorite way to spend a Sunday morning was in a canoe, feeding the fish on his beloved pond. He held a deep affection for his dogs, most recently his faithful companion Savannah, who died peacefully just weeks prior to Win's passing.

Win was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Joel Harlan Mayne II.

Win is survived by his devoted partner, Jan Black; daughter, Amy Mayne of Memphis, TN; and his sons: Winfield "Wink" Mayne (Emily) of Washington, NC; Michael Mayne (Cara) of Marne, IA; Jan's son, Justin Black (Emily) of Oronoco, MN; Grandchildren: Harlan Mayne, Anna Haley and Nona Black; Sister, Lyn Albertson of Denver, CO and brother, Mark Mayne (Miley) of Tarpon Springs, FL.
