Winifred "Win" Louise Collins, the daughter of Ezra V. and Karen Olson Lewis was born August 2, 1923 in Powell, Wyoming. She entered into rest on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at the Lutheran Home, Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 7 days. Win was proud of her western heritage. Her parents homesteaded on the Heart Mountain Irrigation Project in l9l8. Win was raised in Powell, Wyoming graduating from Powell High School. She furthered her education at Los Angeles Community College and graduated from Montana State University, Bozeman, MT, with a degree in Microbiology. Win was united in marriage to Edward W. Collins on July 20, 1947 in Powell, Wyoming and to this union 3 sons were born: Todd, Gary and Jack. Win's career in the medical field was served throughout the county. She worked in Washington D.C. as a technologist at Georgetown University Hospital. When the family moved to Houston, Texas, Win was a microbiologist at the Veteran's Hospital. In 1961, the family relocated to Red Oak, Iowa where she worked at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital as Medical Technologist Laboratory Supervisor; she retired in 1989. Win then served 9 years as Laboratory Surveyor for Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation in Chicago, Illinois. In this position, she traveled extensively throughout the United States and Germany, inspecting hospital laboratories. Win was a member of the Red Oak Presbyterian Church. For years, Win had been involved with and a member of Red Oak Book & Study Club, AAUW American Association of University Women, Pi Beta Phi Sorority and P.E.O. Win's life was colorful and full of adventure; she loved to travel. In her 70's, she traveled to Peru and stayed in the jungle on one of her many trips. Win was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward on September 6, 2003; and brother, Jack Lewis. Win is survived by her sons: Todd Collins of Council Bluffs, IA; Gary Collins of Omaha, NE; and Jack Collins and wife Kim of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Misty Alm and Jacob Collins; sister-in-law, Evelyn Lewis of Powell, WY; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at 1:00 P.M. at the Presbyterian Church in Red Oak Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, Iowa Rev.
