About Us
The roots of Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home dates back to 1898, when Walter Sellergren opened the Sellergren Funeral Home in Stanton, Iowa and Arthur Sellergren opened his funeral home in Essex, Iowa. In 1922, Walter and Arthur established a partnership and together they merged and opened the Sellergren Funeral Home in Red Oak, the same location we serve families from today.
In 1923, Arthur died leaving Walter the sole owner. He managed the operation until his death in 1942, when his two sons, Delaine and Darwin Sellergren bought the funeral home from the rest of the family. They continued as a partnership until 1963, when Delaine moved to Fort Dodge to help start another funeral home.
On July 1, 1966, Kenneth and Delores Lindell moved to Red Oak to join the firm and on January 1, 1969, purchased the funeral home from Darwin and Lucille Sellergren. At this time, the name was changed to Sellergren-Lindell Funeral Home.
In August of 1975, Ronald DeMarce joined the firm. Following college, Ron served his apprenticeship at Sellergren-Lindell Funeral Home. On August 1, 1988, Ron and his wife, Sara purchased an interest in the firm. On January 2, 1991, Ron and Sara purchased the funeral home from the Lindell's and the name was changed to Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home. This year, Ron will be celebrating 48 years with Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home. He has been a licensed funeral director for 43 years.
December of 2009, Rudee DeMarce joined the firm and completed his apprenticeship in 2010. While Rudee works full-time for St. Crois Hospice, he continues his license and helps at the funeral home when needed.
